Today’s lesson was in the Olympic Center, in a really really big room. But anyway, that’s skipping ahead a bit. When I got there, there was a bunch of Pop parents, and a few members of Hyper, Momo-chan and Momo-mama, Uchida-san, Tomoko-san, Iori, etc. I wanted to ask Hiro-kun’s mother about what had happened with the Takeshi thing, but I couldn’t really. I did manage to ask Uchida-san though, when he mentioned something about Hiro-kun’s mother, and she said, ‘Apparently it’s a no go.’ (Dame mitai), and we exchanged an ‘We knew it would be.’ look. He showed me the latest issue of that Dream Planet newsletter thing. The front page was big picture of Takeshi, with a big message from him. Part of the message was to Hiro-kun. I kind of just scanned it, cuz I felt weird reading it there, but the part I read said, ‘I’m not the same as when I danced for you before, Hirokazu-kun. I’m not your prince anymore. I’m your equal (ally).’ (Boku ha mou kimi no ouji-sama nanka ja nai. Nakama da!) Meanwhile, Momo-chan began skipping around the hallway singing ‘Atsushi-kun ga iru!!’ (Atushi’s here!) over and over. I wasn’t quite sure what was so special about that, because Atushi is there pretty much every lesson, but I went over to look through the window into the lesson room, and sure enough, there was Atsushi. He was sitting on the floor with is arms resting on his knees, and as I looked at him, he looked up and stared outside the door at me. Well, I don’t know if he was actually looking at me, but it was in my direction, so I quickly moved away from the door. When we peeked again, he was doing a weird head bobbing thing, in profile, which made me laugh. So then Pop class was over, and we all filed into the lesson room. As I put my card down, Anna-san’s Okaasan gave me this big explanation about how there’s been a problem with the automatic post office money withdrawal, because my name is written different on the account and on the thing I sent to Toy Box, so I have to rewrite it and send it off. Then Anna-san, who was wearing a loose gray t-shirt and navy windbreaker pants, announced with a smile that we’d be starting our lesson now. As I passed her when she was coming up to the front of the room and I was going to the back of the room, she gave me a huge smile and a very genki ‘Uiissu!!’, which made me so happy I almost bragged (?) about it to Tomoko-san but realized that it wasn’t exciting to anyone besides myself. LOL Before we began exercises, Anna-san announced that we have a new member, who would be sitting in on the lesson today. The new member is a woman who looks in her late 40s or early 50s, named Kazuko-san, who apparently saw our live and decided she wanted to join. (When Anna-san talked directly to her, she used keigo (Live wo goran ni natta to?), and when she talked to us about her, she used regular form (Live wo mite kara). Then we did exercises. Since the room was so large, (and there actually wasn’t so many people there today), both Anna-san and Atsushi-kun led the exercises. At first I was slightly annoyed, because I happened to be right behind Atsushi, so I couldn’t watch Anna-san without being really obvious, but then I just watched Atsushi, which was also interesting. I think he dyed his hair a different color (it’s mahogony reddish now), and his eyebrows seemed reddish too. Anyway, he looked pretty different than usual, tanner. It was interesting to watch him do the exercises, because after all men do move differently than women, but I didn’t want to keep watching during the hip thurst and rotation moves, because it was slightly embaressing, and I didn’t want him to think I was a stalker or something, plus there was one part where I watched him in the mirror, and I swear he caught my eye in the mirror. Because of Kazuko-san, Anna-san called out each stretch before doing it. It was also interesting watching Anna-san this lesson, because there was something about her, I don’t know, her hair seemed a little longer, and her more casual clothes, she just seemed so natural and informal, like she was just practicing at home, like she was born to be an instructor, in her natural habitat, doing what she’s been doing for half her life, and for some reason, all of that combined to remind me forcefully of that women are supposed to be at their sexual peak in their 30s, of that expression that says ‘Onna ha 30 kara) (Women begin at 30), because just seemed to ripe and womanly, (god that’s corny when you put it on paper. but it’s true). and I though that she’s more beautiful now than she would have been when she was younger. (Which, actually is true, if you see pictures, but I think it also has to do with how happy and fulfilled her life is now)
So, anyway, today we worked mostly on the group dances for Miami. Atsushi (who had been dancing freestyle very cooly to whatever song was playing. Miami?) was giving Kazuko-san a private rundown on the dance. Namio, who actually spent most of the lesson playing with/ baby sitting little Haru-kun, may have taught the other group, but it seems to me that Anna-san went back and forth from all three groups, teaching each group herself. When she came to out group, she called us over, saying ‘Genchi, Family....nanka nagai naa’ (Genchi, family... this is really long)’, and I said that we could call in the Genshuuzoku (GENchijin, SHUUgakuryoukousei, kaZOKU), and she laughed, and asked where the Kazoku was, but we explained that it was the zoku from kazoku, and she said that it sounded like some tribe in Africa. But the next time she said our group name, she used Genshuuzoku, which made me very happy. She watched our group, and said that we had the steps down, we just needed to get the acting bit at the beginning. So Momo-chan and Iori-chan and I had a lot of fun working out our acting bit, where they (a student and child) asked me (an American) questions, in English, and I pushed them away, doing the ‘talk to the hand’ thing, and putting my face in my hands, etc, which Anna-san laughed at when we practiced to the music. My only problem was that I would get too into the acting, and miss our cue to start dancing. Then she taught us the next part in the dance, which seemed silly until we did it to the music, which it actually fits really well. The next part also involves all going around in a circle and ‘appealing’ to the audiance as we walk by the front of the stage, and I wanted to blow kisses because I decided that I would be a Hollywood star in Miami, but I couldn’t because I was too embarrassed to blow kisses to Anna-san. We had a break, where Anna-san went through dance steps by herself, dancing off to the side. We practiced that for awhile, and ran through the whole dance so far, and Anna-san explained that all we had left was the very end, where it(Will Smith) said ‘I love this town’. (said quickly, but in her English! Yay! I was very happy), which she still had to think of the dance for, since she wanted something unlike the other endings for Hyper Dances, and then all we’d have to do was perfect our ‘acting’, etc get in character, and Miami would be done. (Later at the end of the lesson, she said jokingly (?) that she’s been thinking about something cut, like pulling down our pants to reveal shorts with the words ‘HYPER’ or something. LOL) Then she said we’d do Yagyugaiden, and we all clapped for some reason, and did Yagyugaiden. After the lesson was over, and we all bowed again to Kazuko-san, we looked over the fishnet stockings that Atsuko-san brought to suggest for armbands, and talked about costumes for Yagyugaiden, while Namio banged noisily on the piano, but to the delight of Momo-chan and Haru-kun, and the annoyance of Anna-san, who told him ‘Urusai!’ in a graudually sharper tone as he kept on playing, and tried to tell him that we were trying to talk.
I was walking home with Tomo-chan and Tomoko-san, (with whom I had had as conversation about breasts, and how apparently one of the Hyper members, who is Tomoko-san’s friend and a really good dancer has an E cup, and that eating figs and akebi, some fruit that dictionary just listed as ‘An akebi’ makes your boobs grow), we got the scare of our lives when Namio came rushing up behidn is on the oudanhoudou. He then told us that in Okinawa, when you’re shocked by something, they say (Mabu wo otoshita) (I dropped my soul) and there is this complicated ‘spell’ for picking it up again. He also talked on the about Eight Mile, and said Fuck you man, and I taught him how to say Fuck you bitch. LOL

Ok, it's time for a rant. Time to bring this journal back to it's origins for a post, and rant about Makino-sensei. Lately I've got a bunch of new info about Actor's, Dream Planets, etc, and none of it makes me happy. But hey, what else is new? The gist of it all is that Makino's fucking up everything. The Dream Planets, who until recently were still B.B in everything but name, his own school, all of it. Before now, except for Maiko-san, Atsushi and Yuuta, B.B still had everyone. But I learned last month from Yayoi-san that Kiyoka has quit Actor's. Kiyoka, one of the main B.B (later D.P) members, who always had at least one solo in all the concerts, and used to sing duets with Maiko-san. Kiyoka, who was so into Makino and his ideology. Kiyoka with her amazing voice, who had managed to move me so much even with a song I thought was propaganda. Kiyoka left Actor's. According to Yayoi-san, this is the story behind that. Kiyoka and Saki were supposed to both have solo debuts, however, Makino told Kiyoka she'd need to lose some weight. So Kiyoka went to the gym faithfully, and worked really hard, but she could only get her weight down to a certain point. (I'd like to point out that Kiyoka is by no means fat. I mean, she's not even chubby. She's a perfectly fine weight). So Makino told her, 'If you don't lose the weight, you're not debuting.' And apparently that's why she left. I'm sure there has to be more to it than that, because I don't think Kiyoka would leave just over that. And that’s not all. Apparently, the number of students is dropping a lot, because alot of the kids are starting not to trust Makino-sensei. Because he keeps talking about equality, etc. but it reality apparently there are a bunch of things which only the Dream Planets know, or only the regular students know, etc. The example I heard was that they aren’t charging an enterance fee to join anymore (I guess I they need students so much?) which is something that Makino obviously can’t tell the regular students, because all of them had to pay to join the school, so that only the members of the Dream Planets, who are the one who go to Elementary Schools etc, and hand out the pamphlets know about it. An extreme case of how bad things are, apparently there are less than 30 students at the Yokohama Actor’s! I couldn’t believe that when I heard it! And apparently, because there are so few students, Makino won’t even let them do an A-live, because he says they don’t have enough people. So they have nothing to aim for, no goal anymore. Also, I heard a little bit from Emi-chan, who mentioned that now even Saki-chan is unsure about whether she wants to stay at Actor’s. So basically, everyone’s leaving. Yayoi-san said that Dream Planets concert they went to in Aomori, it was mostly dancing more than singing, and that the same few people sung over and over. (This would be Saki, Minami-chan, and I think she said Ayako and Shoko sung back up).
And then after Momo-chan's school festival, a bunch of us, including one of the Pop kids, Hiro-kun, and and his mother went out for dessert. Basically, Hiro-kun's mother talked the ENTIRE 3 hours we were there (and was still talking when I left.) The subject of her conversation? Takeshi. Takeshi, Makino's golden boy, with his amazing incredible dance and acting skills and his wonderful energy. It seems that Takeshi is something of a hero to Hiro-kun, as it was his dance that made Hiro want to dance, and he also taught Hiro back when everything was still at Actor's. So Hiro wants to watch Takeshi dance again, since that's where he gets his big motivation, and wants to show Takeshi how much he's improved. However, the Dream Planets very rarely perform. Even less so now, because, as I was shocked to find out, Makino is lately focusing more on sports than dancing,etc, so Takeshi has been stuck all these month playing some idiotic sport called Beach Football. Apparently he said he hasn't danced in quite a while. This is such a waste. Such a waste. Especially because it seems like he really just wants to dance, but he can't go against Makino, and is feeling torn, etc. So Hiro-mama wants to give him a stage to dance on, and apparently she went to go talk to Makino today to arrange that. Of course, there is the minor problem that Hiro goes to L.J, and Makino is still pissed off at Anna-san. So I think, and Uchida-san agreed with me, that it ain't gonna happen. Hiro-mama wants this to become something to make Makino and Anna-san make up, but we are pretty positive it's way too soon for that to happen. I mean, it's only been a year. And I don’t know, I understood a lot of where Hiro-mama was coming from, I mean, I understand she wants to do all this for her son, etc, and really does just want Takeshi to have a place to dance, but I was a little turned off by how certain she seemed that her opinions were all right, and how she would just plow through everything, maybe understanding other people’s feelings but still not considering them very much. I just hope that this doesn’t end up hurting Anna-san in some way. Speaking of which, I heard from Uchida-san, when I told him about what Kou told me about Makino forbidding everyone to contact Anna-san that apparently Anna-san has also told the members of ZinRye not to have much correspondence with Actors, presumably because Makino will flip and think she’s trying to steal his students, or whatever he thinks. Jeez. The way he’s doing things, Anna-san doesn’t need to steal them (not that she’s trying to, because she’s certainly not), they’re all leaving because of him. I don’t know. Uchida-san and I both agreed that if Takeshi leaves Actor’s, things are over.
Speaking of Takeshi, apparently Anna-san still cares and misses all of her old students, which of course is to be expected, I mean, since she had only taught some of them for like half their lives. Because Fukuda-san said that once when she had mentioned Takeshi’s concert (it was actually a different Takeshi tho) , Anna-san’s reaction had been so enthusiastic it had surprised her. (She cried ‘Eee!!!? Takeshi!!!??’ with a eager smile. I really do hope that Anna-san and Makino make up at some point, or at least her and all her old students.

In other news, I actually had an interesting comparative language class today. We spent a lot of time talking about first and last names, etc. One girl, Fukuhara-san said her older sister is an kindergarten teacher, and lately she has a lot of trouble remember the names of her kids, because people give their kids really weird names. The examples she gave was one family who named their kid Yamato in katakana after that Uchuusen Yamato anime, who’s little brother’s name is Gaia, even though that’s the name of goddess. Also there are twins named Lemon and Lime (both given kanji to read Remon and Raimu).
